Climate protection despite meat consumption - is that even possible?
For several years now, there has been intense discussion about meat consumption and climate change. The amount of CO2 generated during the production process is dependent on its type (e.g. beef, pork or poultry) and on the method of live stocking (regional and organic – or conventional).
Due to the high demand for fodder and an increased emission of methane, cattle in particular have a negative impact on the climate. Although there are many meat-free substitutes on the market, we still need to find a way to organize our meat consumption in a way that does not harm the climate any further – or even contributes to an improvement of the current situation.
CLIMATE PROTECTION DESPITE MEAT CONSUMPTION • SPECIES-APPROPRIATE ANIMAL HUSBANDRY • CONSISTENT QUALITY •
In the context of this issue, we initially began to support environmental projects that are dedicated to the reforestation of the rainforest (https://www.black-jaguar.org/). However, the desire to be able to offer our customers a product that verifiably contributes to climate protection continued to grow. During our investigations, we came across the ClimatePartner certificate (https://www.climatepartner.com/de). It guarantees the climate neutrality of the labeled product. To achieve this, all CO2 emissions have been reduced as far as possible. Remaining unavoidable emissions were calculated and are compensated for through approved climate protection projects.
Innovation & Tradition
As a family business in its third generation, we always try to transfer traditional values and proven knowledge to our modern times and adapt them to the circumstances. This is how we were able to develop from a butcher’s shop to a livestock trade and finally to a wholesaler and importer.
So who better to be the patron of this brand than our grandmother Heide?
This is what O,Heide stands for:
reduced & balanced carbon emissions
excellent young animals for maximum tenderness
steady quality & cuts
traceability all the way back to the farmer
species appropriate animal husbandry
a production company that operates environmentally consciously
WHERE OUR ANIMALS COME FROM
The Forres Beltran meat processing farm is located in the northwest of Argentina. Here, Angus, Brahman and Hereford cattle are raised on pastures and reared for 12 months a year.
In the province of Santiago del Estero, where the farm is located, several commercial enterprises involved in livestock farming and with a common focus on nutrition and animal health have accumulated.
Frigorífico Forres-Beltrán S.A. is committed to protecting the environment and trying to minimise pollution. Therefore, the company has a highly efficient and technologically advanced residual water treatment system that allows a large part of its wastewater to be reused. The efficient use of electricity and the economical use of water are part of the company’s day-to-day efforts to avoid damaging the ecosystem and its resources.
